Filipino actress Cherie Gil stars in Full Gallop, a one-woman play about American fashion icon Diana Vreeland. Written by Mary Louise Wilson and Mark Hampton, Full Gallop is set in August 1971 in Vreeland's Park Avenue apartment. She had just been fired from her job as editor in chief of Vogue, because her lavish, high fashion photo shoots had "put a strain on the magazine's budget". Vreeland is at a turning point, where she hopes to either start her own magazine, or work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she eventually serves as special consultant.
Vreeland's genius and legendary style informed the likes of Jackie O, and continue to impact the sensibilities of fashion lovers everywhere. She was also famously funny, and wise. A wisdom immortalized in her quotes. Here's my favorite:
"Within every girl is the possibility of arousing emotion. Without emotion there is no beauty."
Gil is a brilliant film and stage actress who hails from one of Philippine cinema's most celebrated acting clans, and will undoubtedly captivate theatre audiences with her portrayal of the marvelous Mrs.V.
Presented by MyOwn Mann Productions and Actor's Actors Inc., Full Gallop is directed by Bart Guingona. Gala night premiere on March 14 with regular performances on March 15 and 21, and on March 16 and 23. At the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium.
