Igor is an interior blogger, a seasoned traveller and a plant lover after my own heart, and he calls Munich home. 5 Must-Dos in Munich...

#1 Visit the old farmer's market Viktualienmarkt

The Viktualienmarkt is one of Munich's iconic places, and also one of the oldest farmers' markets in Germany regarding its continuity on the same spot from medieval times. It is nestled in the old town and features lots of delicious veggies, fruits, handicrafts, flowers and fresh squeezed juices. Today it is an upscale farmers' market so don't be surprised by the elevated prices---it reflects Munich's high-end personality as a city. 

#2 Stroll through the Old Town

The best way to discover the charms of old Munich is to stroll by foot through the city's old town, which is basically the core which was encircled by a wall in medieval times, and different gates marked the entrance to the town. Nowadays you can still visit the Isartor gate, the Sendlinger Tor gate and the Karlstor gate to the east, the south and the west of the old town. To the north there is no gate left anymore but the vast and beautiful Odeonsplatz will tell you why some people call Munich Italy's northernmost town. 

#3 Coffee break at Man vs Machine

One of the coolest coffee places in town is Man versus Machine (first photo). This über-cool coffee place is located in the hip and buzzing Glockenbach quarter with many bars, shops and restaurants. Enjoy pour-over coffee, cold brews and other specialties prepared almost like in a laboratory. And hang out with Munich's cool crowd.  Man versus Machine

#4 Munich's Botanical Garden

Don't miss a stroll through the beautiful botanical garden of Munich if you love plants and flowers. Especially during spring time this is a magic place bursting with colours and a bounty of plants both in the exterior gardens as well as the greenhouses. Plus it is located not far away from the romantic Nymphenburg Castle---so visit both place at once!  

#5 Bird's eye view from the Old Peter Tower

Climb the Old Peter tower in Munich's old town to enjoy a 360° bird's eye view of Munich with its red tiled rooftops and fairytale like towers. You will remember this beautiful view---but first you must climb quite a few flights of stairs in an old and pretty narrow tower. No claustrophobia please!

Enjoy Munich as it is one of Germany's most beautiful and most livable cities in the country's south. It offers lots of nature, many parks, a river, numerous lakes around the town as well as the Alps not far away. Good shopping, fine food, nice bars and beautiful architecture round up the feeling of Munich as a great place to visit. Enjoy!
